Winter Paradressage Championships
Hi I am Mari one of the Penniwells riders.
A few weeks ago I was on my way to school when the phone rang, it was my dad saying that I had qualified for the winter Para Championships, I was thrilled. Later on that day I told my instructor Sarah and found out that I was one of the top 15 or 20 riders in the country to qualify, which was brilliant.
We didn’t have very much time to prepare for the big competition. So a week after finding I had qualified, I was heading to Vale View in Leicester. Soon after we arrived I was on Murphy and warming him up, in the massive long arena. I rode very well in my first test which was test 31, the test I had qualified for. After I had ridden we had dinner, and watched some of the other tests. Then at about 4:50 I got on Murphy for the mounted prize giving. I had come third and I was only point 5% behind the person that came second, which is tiny. I did very well and won a Rosette and a prize which was some treats for Murphy. Murphy was a very good boy all day, and didn’t put a foot wrong.
After we had put Murphy away in the box, we made our way to where we would be staying. It was called Dry Pot Lodge, me and my dad were staying inside the house, but Sarah and my mum were staying in the freezing cold horse box, poor them but they did have the choice to stay inside the house. After putting Murphy in his 10 star Hotel, (there was posh stables where we were staying) for the night and giving him his dinner we set of to the local pub. Trix drove me my mum, my dad and Sarah to the pub there we meet Dougie, and the pub dog Max, (who was very cute).
We had a lovely meal and then headed back to Dry Pot Lodge. We checked on Murphy and went to bed. In the morning we woke up early as Sarah was riding very early in the morning. We got Murphy ready and loaded him on to the horsebox. We arrived at Vale View and straight away tacked Murphy up for Sarah. Sarah was riding a Novice test (she had put a late entry in for this test). The test went very well, and Murphy was a really good boy. After she had finished the test she stayed on Murphy in the warm up area as her second test was very soon, there was no point in getting off. She won her two classes and got two Red Rosettes.
Sarah was now finished but we had a big wait till I was on. So we went and did bits and pieces. At about 4.30 it was finally my turn, we got Murphy ready and I got on. My test was at 4.51 so I rode Murphy in the warm up arena for a bit. Them my number was called and I went in. I rode a very good test which was the freestyle to music. I was against all the open riders, and I am a restricted rider but I was doing the freestyle just for fun as we were still there as Sarah was riding. I went in for the mounted prize giving and I found out that I had come 4th, which is really good.
We then made are way home to Penniwells.
I know that I wouldn’t have been able to qualify and get to Vale View with out the help of Sarah and Murphy. So I would like to say a really big thank you to both of them. I would also like to say to Sarah well done for winning two red rosettes and thanks once again for helping me to qualify and get there.
This is for Murphy you were a fantastic boy all weekend and didn’t put a foot wrong. So you know everyone is very proud of you. So thanks again Murphy.
I would also like to say very big thank you to Ria for letting me compete Murphy in all the competitions I do.
My last two thank you’s are for my mum, dad and Trix and Dougie.
This is for Trix and Dougie thank you so much for coming to support me. It really helps when you have a lot of people cheering you on. So thank you once again.
This is for my mum and dad thank you so much for taking me and supporting me. I know without you I wouldn’t be able to ride and compete Murphy so I would like to say a very big thank you.
